Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) characterized a House Oversight Committee hearing on the Smithsonian as "the Republicans' White Pride rally disguised as a congressional hearing," sparking immediate backlash from conservative peers.

Crockett testified before the Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee, the first public congressional scrutiny of Smithsonian leadership since President Donald Trump targeted the institution, according to ABC News.

"And it's a fact that there is a violent, exclusionary, discriminatory, sexist, and racist part of American history," she cited indigenous displacement, lynchings, voter suppression, and the 1963 Birmingham church bombing.

"Attacks on the Smithsonian or any other institution that's willing to tell the true history of America is not only an attempt to rewrite history," Crockett said.

Conservative commentators, like Fox's Kyle Becker, demanded her censure. Similarly, Fox News personality Joe Concha mocked her on social media.
