Bottle and can fundraiser: Boy Scout Troop 1607 and Sustainable Southbury will host a bottle and can fundraiser Aug. 2 from noon to 2 p.m. at 800 Main St. South, Southbury.
Aluminum cans must be sorted separately from plastic bottles. Plastic bottles should be presorted by size: under 1 liter, 1 liter and 2 liters. Glass bottles must be placed in a cardboard box to prevent breakage.

Memorial hikes: The White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield will host a Ron and Joan Jones Memorial Hike to Wheeler Hill and the Old Camp Townshend on Aug. 1 at 10 a.m.
Hikers will meet up behind the Campground Store, 123 Northshore Road, Bantam, for the hike up Wheeler Hill, led by Gerri Griswold. The group will also head over to the trails of Old Camp Townshend along the shores of Bantam Lake.

Kids art workshop: The Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main St., Waterbury, will host a kids art workshop on TetraPak printing on Aug. 1 from noon to 1 p.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m.
The free hands-on workshop offers an opportunity to explore the art of printmaking using TetraPak materials.

Intermediate art workshop: The Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main St., Waterbury, will host an intermediate art workshop, "America in Pop Art," on Aug. 1 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The workshop is for ages 12 to 18.
The cost is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers and free for adventure passholders and Waterbury students.

Writing competition: Oliver Wolcott Library, 160 South St., Litchfield, will host "Teeny Tiny Memoir: A Writing Competition" from Aug. 1-31.
For this writing competition, participants can share funny, sad, poignant or memorable moments in their lives in 100 words or less.
Participants will have the chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Litchfield Bakehouse and an OWL tote bag.
All of the memoirs will be published in an online booklet.
The contest is limited to one entry per person.

Presidents Club: Oliver Wolcott Library, 160 South St., Litchfield, will host its Presidents Club meeting with author and historian Peter Vermilyea on Aug. 3 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in-person and via Zoom.
The event features a discussion on the book "An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy" by Robert Dallek.
