Among outdoor enthusiasts, Arc’teryx’s line of Beta jackets and pants stand out as some of the best on the market.

Though generally more affordable than the brand’s Alpha line, these highly technical garments still hit price points only hard-core alpinists and the filthy rich can behold without blinking.

Alpine style

Let’s quickly address the math. The Beta SL’s regular price is $500, but REI is currently selling the men’s version for $300 in two colors and the women’s version for $410 in one.

Several sizes of the men’s Mantis/Tatsu (lime green) are still available, as are most sizes of the women’s Dynasty/Carmine (red). Less common sizes of the men’s Vitality II (blue) can still be had as well.

The appeal of these jackets certainly widens when they are up to 40 percent off, as they offer not only loads of technical trail-ready features but inherent, urban-ready gorpcore style as well.

The former is certainly the focus (with the latter more of a byproduct), as the brand is quick to hype its lightest Beta jacket as a versatile mountain performer.

Weight-wise, it tips the scales at just 10.6 ounces for the women’s small and 12 ounces for the men’s medium.

Thanks to the PFC-free Gore-Tex ePE membrane and C-Knit backer, it’s completely waterproof, windproof and breathable.

The StormHood is both helmet compatible and adjustable, so you can lock in the fit when conditions get wet and/or windy.

The jacket is cut in a trim fashion to stay close at the chest and waist, eliminating bulk while moving well with the body and layers.
