Reddit (RDDT) shares fell about 6% in premarket trading after The Wall Street Journal reported that the company has discussed potentially restricting Google’s (GOOG) access to its content for artificial intelligence use.

According to the report, Reddit (RDDT) executives are evaluating the future of the company’s content licensing agreement with Google (GOOG) as the deal approaches renewal. Reddit (RDDT) signed a $60 million-a-year agreement with Google (GOOG) in 2024 that allowed the search company to use Reddit (RDDT) content for AI model training, the report said.

The WSJ reported that Reddit (RDDT) is among several online publishers reassessing their relationships with Google amid changes in how users access information through AI-powered search tools. It said companies including USA Today, Politico, The Economist, People, and Reuters are also evaluating how they manage access to their content.

Google (GOOG) has said its AI search features continue to direct traffic to websites and provide controls for publishers to manage how their content is used.

Reddit (RDDT) has not announced any decision to restrict Google’s access, and the companies are reportedly in discussions over a potential renewal of their agreement, according to the report.
