The Boston Red Sox have won 15 games in a row, tying their franchise record.
The franchise was hoping to tie the mark on Tuesday, but the game against Baltimore was postponed due to inclement weather. As a result, the Red Sox and Orioles are playing a doubleheader on Wednesday, and Boston earned a 6-3 victory in Game 1 to tie the franchise record.
Caleb Durbin got the scoring started right away Wednesday afternoon. With the bases loaded in the first inning, he hit a single to center field that plated two runs.
Jarren Duran then hit a triple that scored Willson Contreras and Durbin for a four-run first inning.
Duran helped Boston add another run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly that scored Durbin from third. Cedanne Rafaela knocked a solo home run in the fourth inning to put the Red Sox up 6-2 at the time.
Starting pitcher Jake Bennett pitched well. He went 5 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on nine hits.
Justin Slaten, Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman came out of the bullpen and shut down the Baltimore offense.
Boston's streak goes back to before the All-Star break, beginning with a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on July 3.
That first victory pushed the Red Sox to a 38-48 record. With the 15th consecutive win, Boston is now 52-48 and third in the AL East. The Red Sox's first 15-game winning streak was accomplished by the 1946 squad led by Ted Williams. That team finished the season 104-50.
The Red Sox have a chance to set their franchise record for consecutive wins on Wednesday. Boston has yet to name a starter for Game 2 of the doubleheader, but Baltimore will counter with Kyle Bradish, who recently signed a five-year extension with the Orioles.
