5. Kamari Lassiter, Houston Texans
Lassiter was one of the best defensive rookies in the NFL during the 2024 season, finishing in tenth place in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. In 2025, Lassiter earned Pro Bowl honors and helped the Texans finish the season ranked first in total yards allowed per game and second in points allowed per game. Lassiter is one of the best cornerbacks in run support in the NFL, and against the pass he has great ball skills. He finished 2025 top 10 in the league in total pass deflections with 17, and also recorded four interceptions.
4. Charvarius Ward, Indianapolis Colts
Ward played at a very high level in the seven games he appeared in during the 2025 season. He is a tremendous press coverage cornerback who plays with good physicality. He has also great arm length and straight-line speed. Ward is extremely strong at the catch point as well, and he does a good job of getting his hands on the football. He led the league in pass deflections in 2023 with 23 pass deflections, and has averaged over one pass deflection per game over the last three seasons.
3. Jalen Pitre, Houston Texans
Another member of the elite Houston Texans secondary, Pitre is a versatile defender who is extremely impactful on the Texans defense. He has great instincts and football IQ, a good ability both in coverage and as a run defender, and plays the game with an extremely high motor. Pitre finished 2025 with an 86.5 overall PFF grade, ranking second among all safeties in the NFL. He also tied with Lassiter, Calen Bullock, and Derek Stingley Jr. as the Texans leader in interceptions with four interceptions.
2. Sauce Gardner, Indianapolis Colts
Gardner has been one of the league’s top shutdown cornerbacks since he entered the league in 2022. The two-time First Team All-Pro cornerback has elite height and arm length for the position and is one of the best cornerbacks in press coverage in the NFL. Gardner doesn’t generate turnovers at a high rate with just three career interceptions and no interceptions during the 2025 season, but he still does a great job at getting his hands on the ball and breaking up passes, recording 49 total pass deflections since 2022. Gardner has incredible movement skills and speed at his size, and is one of the most consistent players in man coverage in the NFL.
1. Derek Stingley Jr., Houston Texans
Stingley is not only the best defensive back in an elite Texans secondary and the best of the AFC South defensive backs, but he has also been one of the best cornerbacks in the entire league over the last two seasons. He now has back-to-back Pro Bowls and First Team All-Pro seasons, and is one of the best cornerbacks in zone coverage in the NFL. Stingley has tremendous instinct and does a great job reading the quarterback’s eyes in coverage.
Stingley has elite ball skills with 14 interceptions over the last three seasons, and more pass deflections than any player over the last three seasons with 46 total pass deflections. He also has great movement skills and overall athletic ability. With his ability to force turnovers at a high level and elite consistency in coverage, Stingley is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and played a big role in helping the Texans finish the 2025 season as the second-best scoring defense in the league.
