Qualcomm (QCOM) said on Wednesday that it has expanded its collaboration with Samsung (SSNLF), bringing Snapdragon chips across the new Galaxy lineup, including smartphones, watches and intelligent eyewear.
The San Diego, California-based firm said that Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform and Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 will be used across Samsung’s newest devices, including the Samsung Galaxy Z smartphone variants, Samsung Galaxy watch variants and its new intelligent eyewear.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy—built on Qualcomm Oryon CPU—will power Galaxy AI across Samsung’s latest foldable smartphones. Meanwhile, Snapdragon Wear Elite, which the firm markets as purpose-built for personal AI, will mark Samsung’s first smartwatch platform powered by the chip family.
“We optimized Snapdragon platforms together for each Galaxy form factor, securing the performance and efficiency that Galaxy AI experiences are built on. That foundation is what allows users to move across smartphones, watches, and eyewear with one consistent, premium Galaxy experience,” said Won-joon Choi, President and Chief Operating Officer of MX Business, Samsung Electronics.
Separately, Samsung shares have skyrocketed following reports that the tech giant is in discussions to invest around €1B in French AI firm Mistral. The investment could value the AI startup at around €20B ($22.81B), the Financial Times reported.
Samsung shares soared 116.8% to $140, while Qualcomm rose 1.27% to $175.70 during early trading hours.
