Parents, one of your toddler’s staple snack foods could be dangerous. Pumpkin Tree announced a recall of its Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit purée because of defective packaging. Last week, Pumpkin Tree’s packaging supplier recalled its pouches because of an internal packaging defect that may result in a strand of soft plastic contaminating the fruit purée.

Is This Fruit Purée Dangerous?

If the plastic strand were to detach from inside the pouch, it could pose a choking hazard to small children. The recall does not say whether the plastic could detach, though it does caution parents and caregivers that the fruit purée should “not be eaten or fed to another person.” No injuries have been reported, Pumpkin Tree says.

Victoria Seaver, registered dietitian and associate editorial director for EatingWell and Simply Recipes, says, “As a parent, I tend to view just about everything as a potential choking hazard! Both of my toddlers have had some pretty scary gagging episodes—even from something as small as a single dog hair—so the mention of a ‘strand of soft, food-grade plastic’ is definitely concerning to me.” This is a product she buys regularly for her toddlers, so Seaver immediately checked the products she has at home.

How To Identify the Recalled Pouches

The recalled Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit purée was sold exclusively at Kroger, Meijer, and Target stores nationwide between March 6, 2026 and July 13, 2026. Look for the following codes on the back of the pouch to identify a recalled product:

  • Barcode: 8 15367 01078 0
  • Best-Before Date (BBD): 01/19/2027, 01/20/2027, 03/17/2027, 03/18/2027, 05/14/2027, or 05/15/2027.
  • The number ‘4’ will be printed on the rear right-hand side seam.

No other Pumpkin Tree or Peter Rabbit Organics products, flavors, or best-before dates are part of this recall.

What To Do With Recalled Product

Pumpkin Tree asks consumers who have recalled product at home to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. It should not be eaten.

If you have questions, visit the Pumpkin Tree website or contact the consumer support desk at 888-566-2363, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.
