When it comes to protecting your Pixel phone a case is always a great option alongside a screen protector, but Google’s Pixel Care+ service is a great option as well, and right now Google is offering open enrollment for specific devices in the Pixel family. Open enrollment means you can add the service to your phone even if it’s a bit older. Normally, Google would only allow you to add this if you purchased your phone in the past 60 days. So, if you bought your Pixel six months ago, you usually wouldn’t be able to add Pixel Care+ to your device.
Google is essentially turning that on its head for the next few weeks and letting anyone add it to their phone so there’s extra protection in case something goes wrong. Accidents happen, after all. That being said, there are a few caveats to keep in mind.
Pixel Care+ open enrollment is only available until August 2 on Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series
While open enrollment may be active, you can’t add to just any Pixel device. In addition to that, Google is only offering it for a limited time. Compatible phones include the Pixel 9 series phones and the Pixel 10 series phones. This includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and then the Pixel 10a. Neither of the fold models from either series are compatible, unfortunately. Obviously, you’ll also be able to add it to the upcoming Pixel 11 when it launches later this year.
As for timing, you have from now until August 2 to add this to your compatible Pixel phone. Google is giving customers two ways to do so. You can login at the Google Store Online, or you can do this through the My Pixel app on your device.
There will be two payment options available as well. There’s the monthly fee, which costs $13 a month to add Pixel Care+. There’s also the 2-year plan which is up to $239 depending on your device model. It’s a lot more money, sure, but over time, the $13 a month will end up costing you more. The benefit of the monthly plan is that you can cut it off at any time, should you need or desire to do so.
What the protection plan covers
You’re also probably wondering what Pixel Care+ covers. For starters, it costs you $0 for screen repairs and for battery repairs. You also pay $0 for back glass. Additionally, batteries must have less than 80% capacity, and as 9To5Google points out, there are some other restrictions to make a note of.
On top of this, you can get unlimited $0 claims for “post-warranty malfunctions” on the device, and unlimited accidental damage from cracks, drops, or spills. Although the latter is not for $0 claims. Google also requires that phones don’t have screen or back glass damage, liquid damage, mechanical or electrical failure, or battery degradation prior to adding Pixel Care+.
