The Chicago Bears found immediate success on offense in Ben Johnson's first season as head coach, where both the passing game and run game thrived among the top units in the NFL.
D'Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai led to a top-three rushing attack, averaging over 140 yards per game. It was also a resurgence for Swift, who had a career year with 1,087 rushing yards (his second ever 1,000-yard season) and nine touchdowns. Monangai, in a complementary role, totaled 783 yards and five touchdowns.
Pro Football Focus ranked the best running backs in the NFL, and both Swift and Monangai made the list. Swift led the way as the 13th ranked running back heading into 2026. Meanwhile, Monangai earned an honorable mention as a key part of Chicago's 1-2 punch on the ground, which returns for its second season in 2026.
The 2025 campaign was the best of Swift’s career so far, as his 86.6 PFF rushing grade and 1,087 rushing yards were each the highest across his six seasons. His 30 explosive runs slotted seventh in the NFL, and his 299 receiving yards were 13th as well.
Monangai combined with D’Andre Swift to give the Bears an elite run game last season. The seventh-round rookie averaged 4.5 yards per carry while producing a strong 75.2 PFF rushing grade. Monanagai doesn’t boast Swift’s explosive speed, but his ability to keep Chicago on schedule between the tackles is extremely valuable. He could be argued as a top-32 back in the NFL.
The Bears didn't make any big moves at running back this offseason, which means it'll be Swift and Monangai once again leading the attack on the ground. With Chicago's talented offensive line, quarterback Caleb Williams' mobility and Swift and Monangai's recent success, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Bears had another top-five run game in 2026.
