Fans of the Beatles got up close and personal with a music icon.
Paul McCartney, 84, recently had a shocking encounter with fans on an unofficial Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour bus in Liverpool, England.
The bus was waiting at a traffic light when they saw the original Beatles member. Fans then realized that he was on a video call with his former bandmate Ringo Starr.
The special moment occurred on Monday, July 20, according to Billboard.
Tour guide Neil Morton detailed the encounter in an interview with BBC, calling it “surreal.”
“I had pulled up at the traffic lights on Hope Street when who should I see? Sir Paul with Ringo on FaceTime,” he said.
Morton said McCartney “waved to us and everybody took photos.”
“The passengers could not believe it,” he added.
Morton shared that he previously ran into the English musician while working at the Cavern Club, where the Beatles often played in their early career.
“We were told not to take photos, but I managed to sneak one,” he said.

A photo of the encounter shows McCartney learning out of a car window to wave while holding up his phone to show Starr.
Starr shared the photo on Instagram with the caption, “How about that for a Magical Mystery Tour in Liverpool? Peace and Love, Ringo.”
McCartney was in the city for an event at the school he co-founded, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
The tour was established in 1983 by Cavern City Tours, the owners of the Cavern Club, per the website. It is named after the Beatles’ 1967 EP of the same name.
The sightseeing tour takes fans to several spots that pay homage to original band members McCartney, Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison. Stops include Harrison’s Birthplace, Strawberry Field, McCartney’s childhood home and more.
Starr and McCartney have stayed close after over the decades. Most recently, Starr was featured on the duet “Home to Us” from McCartney’s 2026 album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.
The musician opened up about the duet in a July interview with PEOPLE, saying, “I loved it because we were in this band together, and it’s just the best band ever. And Paul, his bass playing is incredible, and he’s a songwriter. I mean, I can go on forever. He’s just a wonderful lad.”
