The New England Patriots keep fine-tuning their roster ahead of training camp. As part of this process, the reigning AFC champions made three transactions on Wednesday.
Tight end Mitch Van Vooren and linebacker Riley Wilson were signed to the active roster, while fullback Brock Lampe was waived by the team.
Van Vooren, 25, originally began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He spent time in Seattle and Cleveland last summer, but has been without team since getting cut by the Browns in August. Before turning pro, the 6-foot-5, 255-pounder played college football at St. Norbert, where he appeared in 22 games and caught 65 passes for 1,045 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Wilson, 24, entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie earlier this offseason. He initially intended to sign a free agency deal with the Buccaneers, but the club backed out after he failed his physical due to a groin injury. He previously spent three seasons at Hawaii, where he played 16 games over a three-season span before transferring to Montana. In two seasons with the Grizzlies, he appeared in 26 games with 13 starts and was named second-team All-Big Sky twice. He moved to Arizona for his final year of eligibility, adding 11 more games and four starts to his résumé while also registering 51 tackles, a trio of sacks, and two interceptions.
Lampe, 23, joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2025. As the lone fullback on New England’s roster at the time, he did see some first-team practice reps during his rookie offseason but ultimately suffered a season-ending leg injury in early training camp.
Van Vooren and Wilson were among a group of six players who participated in tryouts on Wednesday. Joining them were offensive linemen Ryan Mosesso and Kaylan Faumui, tight end ThomasOdukoya, and defensive lineman Derrick McLendon.
The Patriots will hold their first practice of this year’s training camp on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. ET.
