All signs seem to point toward Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (knee) suiting up against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
Mahomes, who tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 last fall, said during a recent Yahoo! Sports interview that being ready for Week 1 remains his goal this offseason.
"That's my goal; I've said that since the beginning: being ready to go Week 1," Mahomes said (via Chiefs Wire). "I can't predict the future, and I know that it's a long process. It's not just my decision, but at the same time I'm going to give the doctors and the coaches every single opportunity I can to let me be out there Week 1."
Ed Easton Jr. of Chiefs Wire has written that Kansas City is "optimistic" about Mahomes being ready. Earlier this offseason, Broncos coach Sean Payton told Trey Wingo that Denver, the NFL and ESPN expect Mahomes to play in Week 1. So it would be a surprise at this point if Mahomes is not ready by Sept. 14.
As for Denver, quarterback Bo Nix, who broke his ankle in the divisional round of the playoffs, appears to have recovered, and he is on track for training camp, which begins at the end of the month.
