The hottest Showtime drama of the year is almost at its end. And audiences have less than a week left before it's over.
The Chi is quickly approaching its hotly anticipated series finale, with just a matter of days left before it arrives. Currently, The Chi series finale is slated to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, July 24, which might just be far enough away for viewers to catch up on everything they might have missed from Season 8.
Why The Chi Is So Worth Watching Even If It's Almost Over
Created by Lena Waithe, The Chi premiered on Showtime in 2018 and immediately established itself as the then-latest hit TV drama. The series largely revolved around Alex R. Hibbert's Kevin, Ntare Mwine's Ronnie Davis, Jason Mitchell's Brandon Johnson, and Jacob Latimore's Emmett Washington at its outset, with the latter going into Season 8 as the series' only original main cast member still on the show.
Set primarily in the South Side of Chicago, The Chi follows its core cast of characters and the people around them through some truly astonishing, often heartbreaking circumstances. Since its premiere, The Chi has introduced numerous fan-favorite stars, all while moving some of the series' most iconic characters up from recurring roles to main players, including Barton Fitzpatrick, Shamon Brown Jr., and Michael V. Epps.
Over the course of the series so far, The Chi has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and has been nominated for more than ten major industry awards. Of those, The Chi has taken home four, including Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series at the 2018 Black Reel Awards and two IMDbPro Top 200 Scripted TV Recipients awards via ReFrame Stamp in 2018 and 2021.
Following the Season 8 premiere in May, The Chi quickly rocketed to the top of the streaming charts. Within just a matter of days, The Chi was sitting comfortably on the top ten streaming series list for Paramount+ in the United States, standing right alongside fellow hit dramas such as Sheriff Country.
What Can Audiences Expect from the End of The Chi?
Season 8 of The Chi is easily counted among the most explosive, and for good reason. Throughout Season 8, Jacob Latimore's Emmett Washington has dealt with some of the biggest shake-ups the character has ever seen, including major personal and parenting crises.
With the release of the penultimate episode of The Chi, Emmett took it upon himself to finally open up to Birgundi Baker's Kiesha Williams about his recent struggles. Fortunately, fans have watched on as the couple have tackled just about everything that The Chi has to throw at them, from the home birth of their daughter, Jada, to the sudden loss of Emmett's mother who the child was named for only moments later.
The Chi is currently available for streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime. The Chi series finale is slated to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, July 24.
