South Carolina has added a new high school commitment from outfielder/middle infielder Slaide Burd, he announced on Instagram on Wednesday.
Burd is a late addition to the Gamecocks’ high school recruiting class for 2026. He becomes the fourth high school player to commit to the program from this year’s ranks, joining catcher Alain Gomez-Guidiño, infielder Miles Keogh and right-handed pitcher Walker Cox.
Burd was previously committed to Georgia Southern as recently as last year. His most recent commitment was to Stetson. However, after decommitting and reopening his recruitment, he finds himself with a chance to play for the Gamecocks in his home state.
The Yemassee, S.C. native played his high school baseball at Hilton Head Christian Academy. After graduating, he began playing with the Williamsport Crosscutters in the MLB Draft League. In 14 games, he’s hitting .209 with no home runs and seven RBI in 43 at-bats. He’s reached base at a .382 clip by walking 10 times and has stolen five bases this summer.
Burd has played multiple positions with the Crosscutters, including third base, left field and center field. He’s made 11 starts in center field, where he’s made three errors, and started one game each at third base and left field.
Burd is ranked as the No. 500 overall prospect in the Class of 2026, according to Perfect Game. He’s the No. 44 overall prospect and No. 8 outfielder in the state of South Carolina.
