OpenAI (OPENAI) appears to be moving closer to a potential initial public offering, as it has appointed two new members to its board of directors with an extensive background in financial services and public markets.
The Microsoft-backed (MSFT) mega AI startup appointed David Vélez and Robin Vince to the boards of the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC.
Vélez is the founder and CEO of Nubank (NU), which is headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, and is one of the largest digital financial services platforms on the planet. It was founded in 2013. Vince is the CEO of the Bank of New York Mellon (BNY), a position he has held since 2022. Prior to BNY, Vince worked at Goldman Sachs (GS) for more than 25 years.
"David and Robin are exceptional leaders who have used technology to reshape financial services and expand opportunity at a global scale," said Bret Taylor, Chair of the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC Boards. "Their experience will be invaluable as OpenAI serves more businesses and people around the world, working to ensure AI benefits everyone. We're delighted to welcome them to the boards."
Vélez and Vince join Taylor, Sam Altman, Adam D'Angelo, Sue Desmond-Hellman, Sarah Friar, Zico Kolter, Paul M. Nakasone and Nicole Seligman on the now 10-member board.
OpenAI submitted a confidential IPO prospectus to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in June. The company could go public as soon as late this year, but some reports point to early 2027.
