The Ontario Reign retained one of the longest-tenured players in the Los Angeles Kings minor league system early this week on Monday, re-signing veteran forward Jacob Doty for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
The Reign officially announced the signing of Doty to a new AHL contract for the upcoming 2026-27 season on X on Monday.
Doty is the longest-tenured player on the Reign roster. He's played for the Reign for the last seven consecutive years (since the 2019-20 season), providing the team with steady veteran experience and reliable minutes in the forward group in the AHL.

The Reign re-signed Doty to an AHL contract for the 2026-27 season to fill the same veteran depth role that he's maintained for over the last half decade in Ontario.
In the 2025-26 season, Doty scored two goals, two assists, and four total points in 48 games played for the Reign. He also played the first playoff game for the Reign before he was a healthy scratch for the last four this past spring.
Doty led the Reign both in fights and penalty minutes this past regular season.
He wasn't in the roster lineup for every game for the Reign this past season, but Doty was a key veteran leader on and off the ice for Ontario. He's a gritty veteran leader who was an assistant captain for some games this past season.
The new contract will bring Doty back for an eighth season with the Reign, making him a valuable source of continuity in a roster lineup that regularly changes as prospects develop and move through the Kings' organization.
Doty has a clearly defined role with the Reign. His value doesn't come from offensive production or playmaking, but rather from his physicality, toughness, and ability to provide serviceable and reliable depth minutes when called upon. Doty's experience also gives the Reign a longtime organizational presence to mentor younger Kings' prospects developing at the AHL level this upcoming season.
