One of the best action epic films of all time officially returns in new release

One of the biggest movies of the year is Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Odyssey, which brings to life Homer's epic poem. It's difficult to overstate just how momentous the new movie is, as tickets for the picture were released a year ago and quickly sold out. Even though audiences are well aware of all of the plot details of Odysseus (Matt Damon) and his attempt to return home after the Trojan War, seeing Nolan's signature filmmaking sensibilities realize epic encounters is more than enough reason to buy a ticket.

Part of what makes the anticipated box-office earnings of The Odyssey so impressive is that, in addition to the story being thousands of years old, the story of Odysseus has been brought to life countless times. No matter how familiar you think you might be with the events of Odyssey, though, it's possible you could confuse that story with what happens in Homer's Iliad. The events of that story were previously brought to life in 2004 with some of the biggest stars of the time.

Director Wolfgang Peterson's Troymay have scored mixed reviews when it was released, especially as it only came a few years after Ridley Scott's acclaimed Gladiator, but it still went on to earn $497.4 million worldwide. Next month, Troy will be honored with an all-new limited-edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release from Arrow Video.

While this isn't the first release of the movie on Blu-ray, it does mark the movie's debut on 4K Ultra HD. In addition to getting the theatrical cut, what makes this release even more impressive is that both the theatrical and director's cuts of the movie earned a new remaster. The director's cut is 30 minutes longer than the theatrical release, resulting in a runtime of 196 minutes, which includes deleted, extended, and re-edited scenes. The timing of this new release couldn't be better, as audiences walking out of The Odyssey who wonder where the familiar scenes they were expecting were will immediately be able to watch those sequences in Troy. While it will be some time before The Odyssey gets a physical media release, collectors will want to secure Troy to then save a spot right next to it on their shelves for The Odyssey.
