The five-star running back has revealed when he will be making his collegiate decision.

Today is the day. Over the last 18 months or so, Ohio State has been trying to land a commitment from five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. They have been fighting with Tennessee, which has a massive NIL offer for him. Yet, the Buckeyes felt quite confident in landing him for a while.

Gabriel Georges mentioned a while back that he would be making his commitment on July 22. Now he has announced what time he will be deciding. He has announced that he will be committing at 5:30 pm ET today, which will let everyone know his final choice.

Ohio State is unlikely to land David Gabriel Georges

After being the favorites to land DGG, the Ohio State Buckeyes are now expected to lose out on him. Rumors are that an increased NIL offer and the promise to let him wear #0 are big factors. If that is the case, then the Buckeyes are doing the right thing by letting him go to Tennessee.

Wearing that jersey number is reserved for upperclassmen who have proven their leadership within the locker room over time. If that is truly what is swaying things for DGG, that is sad. There is also a rumor that his uncle signed a deal with Adidas, which represents Tennessee.

If the Buckeyes don't end up getting him, it will be a pretty big blow to their 2027 recruiting class. Gabriel Georges is the recruit that Ohio State has spent the most time on in this class by far. Not getting him would leave them with very few options at the running back spot for this class.

Ohio State would not be able to guarantee a starting spot for Gabriel Georges next year, which is another factor in this decision. The Buckeyes still have Bo Jackson slated to return next year and be the incumbent starter. DGG wants to be a starter right away.

Ohio State's recruiting class might lose its luster

At the start of the month, it looked like the Buckeyes might be able to have a fantastic recruiting class. In fact, it looked like they were going to rocket up the recruiting rankings. However, they missed out on Monshun Sales, who would have been the second five-star receiver for them in this class.

If they end up missing out on Gabriel Georges, that would be another high-level recruit that Ohio State would whiff on. Adding both of those players would have given them a chance at a top-three class. That is now out the window if DGG doesn't pick the Buckeyes.

Ryan Day is one of the best coaches in the country, but this would be a disappointment. Perhaps he is looking to build the roster more through the Transfer Portal in the offseason, which is what Indiana has done to build their title team. Day has refused to do that before, but maybe he has changed his mind.

Ohio State still holds out hope that they might be able to sway Gabriel Georges at the 11th hour, but things don't look good.
