Lise Klaveness, president of the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF), announced this Thursday that the body will file a complaint with FIFA. The NFF refuses to let Donald Trump’s intervention in the lifting of Folarin Balogun’s suspension go unpunished.

The saga surrounding the lifting of Folarin Balogun’s suspension at the World Cup is clearly not over. In an interview with The Times on Thursday, Norwegian FA president Lise Klaveness said the organization would file a complaint with FIFA’s ethics committee. The body wants full clarity on Donald Trump’s involvement in the matter, after he called FIFA president Gianni Infantino to ask for the sanction on the American striker to be lifted.

Klaveness warned FIFA’s leadership, which she accuses of trying to “sweep” the affair “under the rug”. The NFF president argues that “when you bend a rule like that, you are on a slippery slope that endangers the entire game”. The former midfielder is above all calling on Gianni Infantino to admit “it was a mistake”. The NFF is expected to link this complaint to the one filed in June regarding the awarding of FIFA’s peace prize to the American president.

Folarin Balogun, suspended for the World Cup round of 16 against Belgium (a 4-1 win), ultimately was able to start the match after President Trump personally intervened with Infantino to have the ban lifted. It was also revealed 10 days ago that the decision to overturn the American striker’s suspension was made by just one person: Mohammad al-Kamali, chair of FIFA’s disciplinary committee.
