A shocking new video has revealed the harrowing ordeal endured by the beloved mother bald eagle from Big Bear Lake — an incident that has left her fighting for her life.
Footage captured by Duke Blackwood, who discovered the injured Jackie near the lake, showed her struggle against younger eagles.

The Ojai Raptor Center, where she is currently receiving treatment, stated Jackie is suffering from severe anemia and kidney inflammation.
“Her condition remains critical, and this is still a very serious case. While the patient remains alert and is eating, it is still too early to predict the outcome,” the Centre said in a post on Instagram. It also noted that wildlife medicine takes time.
Well-wishers have flooded social media with support. “Keep fighting, Jackie. Shadow is keeping your home safe until you can return,” one user commented.
“Praying so hard so many times each day for you, Jackie. I love you so much. Keep fighting sweet girl. Your Mate and babies are ready for you to come home,” wrote another user, Jessica Jones.
Earlier this May, Jackie and Shadow’s two eaglets were officially born and named Sandy and Luna. The names were chosen from over 63,000 global submissions, with local Big Bear Valley third graders making the final selection, according to Friends of Big Bear Valley.

The name Sandy honors Sandy Steers, the longtime executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley and a dedicated protector of the eagles’ habitat, who passed away in February.
Steers, a prominent wildlife activist, launched the 2015 livestream focusing on the nest. Jackie and Shadow became a pair in 2018, captivating audiences as they braved harsh winters to protect their eggs.
Viewers from around the world have continued to tune in to watch the pair, who welcomed their first egg of the year in January 2026.
