NEW PALTZ, NY — Denizen Theatre will host its fourth annual Summer Shorts Film Fest.
Events will take place from Aug. 7 through Aug. 9 at Water Street Market in New Paltz, according to the theater's announcement. The three-day event, presented in partnership with Throughline Artists, will include more than 50 short films screened across six themed blocks, along with panel discussions, happy hour specials and a free awards ceremony.
The festival lineup includes FOR FATHER'S SAKE and the opening-night FOR LOCALS' SAKE block on Friday, FOR GRIEF'S SAKE, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE and FOR TEACHERS' SAKE on Saturday, and Sunday's filmmaker panel, FOR LOVE'S SAKE and the closing-night FOR WORK'S SAKE program. The New York-only FOR LOCALS' SAKE block will feature filmmakers from New York state, according to the announcement.
“The beauty of SUMMER SHORTS is that the festival can make good on the promise of something for everyone. I have reviewed over 2,500 American and international short films to select the very best for anyone who comes to the DENIZEN. So, whether you want to watch something local or something blue,something provocative or something playful, something romantic or something uproarious, you’ll be delighted. We’ll screen over 9 hours of shorts over the course of three days.” said Warren Etheredge, Lead Festival Programmer.
Festival passes are on sale for $50, with 40 passes available, according to the announcement. Each pass includes priority access for one person to all short film blocks, panel discussions and special events from Friday through Sunday, with priority access granted up to 15 minutes before scheduled start times. Individual tickets for screenings and events are $10.
Denizen Theatre also said it is partnering with local businesses to offer $5 student tickets to all screenings and events. Those tickets will be sold at the box office beginning 15 minutes before start times with a valid student ID, on a standby basis and subject to availability.
Happy hour specials are scheduled for Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with 20 percent off beer, wine and cider. Drinks may be enjoyed in the Filmmaker Lounge, theater or patio area overlooking the Shawangunk Mountains, according to the announcement.
A filmmaker panel titled A River Runs Through Them is scheduled for 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, with filmmakers to be announced. The festival will close with an awards ceremony from 8:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Denizen Theatre said six awards will be provided courtesy of local sculptor Craig Shankles, and the event will be free.
