Vic Fangio turned Christian Parker from a relative unknown to defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.
So Parker's replacement could be in line for a similar growth spurt while working under the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator.
Joe Kasper, the new Eagles DBs coach and pass-game coordinator, was named as the Philadelphia's assistant coach to break out in 2026 by The Athletic.
Kasper replaced Parker, the 34-year-old wunderkind who was the DBs coach and pass-game coordinator for the past two years. Fangio, a former NFL head coach with the Denver Broncos, then promoted Kasper from Eagles safeties coach to pass-game coordinator.
Joe Kasper Could Be in Line to Break Out
Real Eagles fans know Kasper has coached in two Super Bowls, and was a coach for the Super Bowl LIX champs in 2024. But you could be forgiven for not appreciating his impact, even though he helped the Eagles pass defense rank first in the NFL that season.
Still, Kasper is going to get a profile upgrade due to his promotion, and The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue noted that he and Fangio already have a rapport from their time with the Miami Dolphins.
"If a young assistant coach can stick around — and even thrive — under top defensive mind Vic Fangio, he is often destined for bigger things," Rodrigue wrote. "Kasper has worked for Fangio in both Miami and Philadelphia, and is poised for a bigger role now that former colleague Christian Parker (another Fangio disciple) is in Dallas."
It only took Parker two years to break out and become an NFL coordinator — and he seems destined to become an NFL head coach in the not-so-distant future. Kasper appears on a similar trajectory, as long as he helps the Eagles' pass defense stay dominant.
Joe Kasper Will Have to Navigate Changes
Of course, nothing lasts forever. Yet, Parker's departure wasn't the only high-profile move for the Eagles defense this offseason.
Aside from Nakobe Dean signing with the Las Vegas Raiders, safety Reed Blankenship is also off to the Houston Texans. Cooper DeJean is expected to fill Blankenship's spot.
Plus, Riq Woolen will take over for Adoree' Jackson at CB2. Woolen was a starter for the Seattle Seahawksbefore losing his job midseason, but has Super Bowl pedigree, which he can use while playing opposite Quinyon Mitchell.
Though his profile may grow leaguewide, Kasper's success with the Eagles will be greater the less you hear his name.
