Here we go again. Zion Williamson’s off-season look comes right on schedule, with NBA fans speculating on what this could mean for the New Orleans Pelicans next season.
It’s a tale as old as time. Certain players spark a near-annual conversation when they are spotted in what looks like the shape of their life, or they’re filmed sinking jumper after jumper. Sometimes it’s rumours that they’ve had a complete lifestyle revamp.
Common examples have included Ben Simmons, Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid and of course, Zion.
After seeing the weight he has dropped this summer, some fans are convinced this is it. The league is done. Others are less convinced.

When it comes to the Pelicans star, there seems to be the same hype every summer. He’s finally going to put it together.
Well, it hasn’t worked yet.
And most fans aren’t drinking the Zion Kool-Aid.
Reacting to the original ‘League is in trouble’ post on X, one fan writes: “Y’all been saying this for years and nothing changes. He just gets ghosted throughout the entire season.”
Another fan is wary from past experiences, saying: “He’s in Year 7. I think we all know how this ends.”
That’s the sticking point for fans. It feels like Williamson gets the same coverage every summer.
As this fan puts it: “Same story every year, only to play for half the season and a new injury update.”
There were a couple of Pelicans fans trying to stay optimistic. One said: “I wanna see him reach his peak so bad.”
Another chimed in: “Let’s hope!”
But about 95% of comments were fans refusing to buy into the hype again.
Williamson’s career has been defined by a frustrating paradox — historic efficiency when he’s on the floor, but an inability to stay there consistently. Since being drafted first overall in 2019, the powerhouse forward has been a truly dominant force, averaging nearly 24 points per game on a staggering 59% from the field.
Yet, injuries have severely hindered his trajectory. Having crossed the 60-game threshold just three times in his first seven seasons, his extended absences have repeatedly derailed the Pelicans’ postseason aspirations just as they gather momentum.
Until a slimmed-down physique translates to a durable regular season and a deep playoff run, skepticism is the only correct reaction to these summer snaps.
