NASA has backed grave threats facing our planet, just as legendary physicist Stephen Hawking forewarned.
The brilliant scientist issued dire predictions in 2018, just two weeks before he died. In The Search for a New Earth, Hawking cautioned that Earth would become a blazing inferno by 2600 unless humans changed course.
Earlier, in 2016, he told the BBC: "Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or 10,000 years."
He identified global warming, climate change and the greenhouse effect as the three main threats imperiling our planet's future. It comes after Isaac Newton's 1704 doomsday prophecy predicted the year that the world would end.

The Cambridge University mathematician's doomsday warnings have resurfaced in public discourse, with the space agency now confirming Hawking's theory, reports the Daily Star.
While NASA hasn't pinpointed an exact doomsday timeline for Earth, it has warned that catastrophe could strike sooner, much sooner, than anticipated, unless we rein in our consumption of resources.
A NASA spokesperson said: "For more than 50 years, NASA has studied our home planet, providing information to directly benefit humanity and producing observations that can only be gathered in space that address some of the areas that Hawking mentioned."
According to The Express, sloths may become extinct by 2100, while New York could experience devastating climate change impacts before the century concludes. Additionally, the planet's demise might arrive far earlier than Hawking projected.
NASA is heavily engaged in prevention programs aimed at stopping catastrophic events that could bring about civilization's collapse. These efforts encompass studying possible asteroid strikes and ongoing climate change research to reduce its effects and distribute resources for Earth monitoring.
Hawking also highlighted nuclear warfare, artificial intelligence and pandemics as possible existential dangers.
