I inherited quite a few things from my mom, including my taller-than-average stature, pin-straight hair, and a love for travel.
While I’d like to believe she also passed along her stellar fashion sense, each time we fly across the Atlantic or drive down to the beach, my vacation outfits pale in comparison to the styles in her suitcase. Though I have my own style, it never hurts to take a few tips from a more seasoned fashionista.
Inspired by my mom’s closet and past vacation photos, I found styles at Amazon’s fashion department that she’d pack to upgrade my own vacation wardrobe, starting at just $6.
Fonyve Satin Scarf
A satin scarf is a permanent fixture of my mom’s vacation style. Why? Not only does it take up barely any room in her suitcase, but it also adds instant polish and a pop of color to otherwise simple ensembles. When packing light, she often rewears pants or blouses, so adding a scarf tied around her neck or through a belt loop helps camouflage outfit repetition.
You can try her styling trick for just $6 with this on-sale scarf or grab one of the dozens of other prints and patterns with the same silky finish.
Btfbm Cotton Maxi Dress, $43 at checkout
Sometimes the best outfits are the ones that don’t require careful planning and styling — a mantra my mom implements on vacation and for her everyday work outfits. This maxi dress looks so similar to the Anthropologie Summerset style my mom owns in several colors but for a fraction of the price. It creates an instant outfit, ideal for throwing on before rushing off to dinner or a busy day of sightseeing.
My mom styles her maxi dresses with sneakers like white Vejas or sandals like this Sorel pair (which carried her through Italy pain-free), depending on the day’s activities.
Miduo Cropped Wide-Leg Stretchy Trousers
I was initially wary of straying away from easy-to-style denim until my mom convinced me to invest in wide-leg trousers like these. Now I reach for them just as much as my favorite pair of jeans. Unlike restrictive tailored trousers or denim, these pants are made from a stretchy fabric that is comfortable and forgiving enough for long plane journeys and big meals.
My mom has several colorful pairs, like this green hue, that create an easy outfit with a simple top or knit. But they’re also available in neutral hues, including black, white, and navy, that are likely to pair with more pieces in your closet.
Join me in taking a style cue with these easy-to-pack styles. Then keep scrolling to shop more vacation-ready styles my mom would approve of.
