Over the past two seasons, Florida State has drastically failed to meet expectations. With only seven wins over that span and no bowl appearances, the future of the program is what many are worried about, and rightfully so.
At the forefront of criticism, as expected, is head coach Mike Norvell. This is the most important season of his tenure in Tallahassee, and there must be better results this year if he wants to remain the coach. That’s a lot of pressure, but Norvell's players are ready to take on the challenge for him.
Transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels, who will be the starter in 2026, spoke about Norvell and his belief in what he wants to do. According to him, the team is focused on playing their hearts out for him at all costs.
"There's not a single person on the team that sits here and thinks about, 'Oh well, if we lose, he's going to get fired'. No, we we don't think about that because we know that that we're going to go out there and do everything for that man this year, everything." Daniels told Noles247.
Cornerback Ja'Bril Rawls had an opportunity to enter the transfer portal, and he initially made plans to do just that. However, he came back for his redshirt junior campaign, and he's looking to be a starter for the second consecutive season after his breakout performance in 2025.
Rawls has spent his entire college career playing for Norvell, and he's seen all the highs and lows. Regardless, much like Daniels, he's ready to perform at a high level for his coach.
"I try not to pay too much attention to the social media stuff. Whether he is in the hot seat or not, I don't really get into all that. Because, I mean, at the end of the day, we've still got to go out there and compete and play. So we've got his back. Just know that," said Rawls.
People can think what they want about Norvell, and the thoughts would be justified regardless of what side of the fence they'd be on. One thing that can't be denied is that his players support him immensely, and that's a key factor when a team is trying to turn things around.
