Moderate Democrat throws down with the Squad in heated social media brawl: 'That's the other Jewish guy'

There was some Democrat-on-Democrat bashing on Tuesday after “The Squad” member Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) called out Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) for signing bombs and voting to drop them. There was just one problem: She had him confused with another left-wing lawmaker with the same first name.

Lee tried to dunk on Gottheimer when he endorsed an X clip from CNN analyst Van Jones criticizing the socialist surge within the Democratic Party. Jones ripped Democratic Socialists of America-aligned candidates for “supporting Hamas” and “celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians,” among other “REGRESSIVE” beliefs.

“I’m glad to see other Democrats reiterating what I’ve been saying all along: the DSA are not Democrats. They’re socialists, who want to hijack the Democratic Party,” Gottheimer added. “The Democrats have a big tent. That’s our strength. We embrace a range of ideas — but there’s no room for anti-American bomb-throwers who oppose our ideas, values, & leaders.”

Lee then tried and failed to mock Gottheimer over it.

“What about Dems who sign bombs and vote to drop them?” she asked.

Gottheimer informed Lee 17 minutes later that she thought he was Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D).

“You know that’s the other Jewish guy named Josh, right?” he replied.

X added to the embarrassment for Lee by attaching a community note to her post that said simply, “different Josh.”

Axios reporter Alex Thompson pointed out Lee was referencing a 2024 picture of Shapiro signing bombs while flanked by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Thompson also pointed out Shapiro’s post had “nothing to do with Israel,” after Lee seemed to believe Gottheimer had signed Israeli bombs.

Gottheimer then got into a social media fight with another Squad member.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) butted in by telling Gottheimer the Pennsylvania governor “signed the bombs you voted to be dropped.” Omar added a sarcastic “Hope this helps” to her X post.

Gottheimer informed Omar she was right, he had voted to arm Ukraine. But he noted she may be shocked to hear who else voted for the same 2024 legislation.

“Ilhan, you know who else voted for it? You,” Gottheimer replied. He included a screenshot of Omar voting “Yea” on H.R. 8035, which was folded into a larger package that became law.  

Omar did not respond to Gottheimer’s comeback, and neither did Lee.
