Detroit Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal is the biggest name on the market ahead of the August 3 trade deadline.
Skubal is the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner and is expected to have plenty of suitors. On Monday, MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed his top-five suitors for Skubal during a live stream of Bleacher Report Walk-Off.
Here was Heyman’s list.
- Chicago Cubs
- Tampa Bay Rays
- Philadelphia Phillies
- Atlanta Braves
- Los Angeles Dodgers
Heyman mentions the flurry of pitching injuries for the Cubs as a reason why they are the top suitor for Skubal. He also said the Rays are “in” on Skubal and they watched the Tigers star in Florida during a simulated game.
To add to this, Heyman did say recently that Skubal seems “much more likely to stay” in Detroit for the remainder of this year.
Tarik Skubal did say that he has “zero appetite” to be traded and he insisted he would rather stick with the Tigers in hopes of making a World Series push.
The Cubs are chasing the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central, but they are currently on top of the NL Wild Card chase, so adding Skubal to the rotation would be a major boost.
