Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MIELY) and Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation have signed a definitive agreement to establish a joint venture aimed at advancing industrial automation and unmanned operations.
The new entity, Advanced Vision Solutions Co., Ltd., is scheduled to launch operations in October 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
The joint venture will combine Sony’s industry-leading image sensors and edge AI processing with Mitsubishi Electric’s deep expertise in factory automation control systems.
The solutions will feature real-time, AI-based analysis of visual data directly on the image sensors, allowing systems to capture complex factory floor conditions, product quality, and equipment maintenance needs that were previously difficult to monitor.
By linking high-precision visual data directly to automated decision-making and machine control, the platform enables timely, autonomous adjustments with minimal manual intervention.
The initiative aims to alleviate industrial labor shortages by enhancing equipment control, optimizing manual workflows, and pushing manufacturing facilities closer to fully autonomous operations.
