LeBron James remains the biggest name on the NBA free-agent market after deciding not to return to the Los Angeles Lakers. The four-time NBA champion has been linked with several contenders, including a potential return to the Miami Heat, where he won two championships from 2010 to 2014.
Those rumors grew even louder on Tuesday after the Heat accidentally published a scheduled YouTube livestream titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference.”
The post was quickly deleted, with the franchise later explaining that it had been uploaded in error while the team’s digital staff prepared for the possibility of landing James (via ESPN’s Shams Charania).
The Heat have now made a notable move following the incident. The organization reposted a job opening on LinkedIn for a Director of YouTube Strategy.
The opening has since sparked plenty of jokes across social media, although there is no indication the position is directly related to Tuesday’s mishap.
The LeBron-to-Miami speculation has intensified in recent days. Heat president Pat Riley has acknowledged that Miami has already spoken with James’ camp but said the organization is now simply waiting on the four-time NBA champion to make his decision. Riley also dismissed the idea that there is still bad blood between the two following James’ departure from Miami in 2014 (h/t Zachary Weinberger of ClutchPoints).
Miami is one of several teams believed to be in the running for James, alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.
Should James ultimately choose Miami, he would join one of the NBA’s most exciting teams in the Eastern Conference. A lineup featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo and James would instantly become one of the favorites and will give Erik Spoelstra three future Hall of Famers to build around as the Heat chase another championship.
For now, however, the basketball world will have to wait and see whether James ultimately takes his talents back to South Beach.
