Another data center developer is preparing to make a major investment in the San Antonio area. CyrusOne, a global data center developer, is set to build a new $500 million project in Castroville, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
The Dallas-based company designs, builds, and operates "industry-leading data centers" across the globe. This will be its first project in the Hill Country town; CyrusOne currently has five data centers in San Antonio. Its growing presence is tied to a wave of data centers pouring money into Medina County, including a new 265-acre technology park and Microsoft's SAT 89 campus. Castroville and other Texas towns are on the forefront of what one industry report claims is on track to become the world's largest data center market by 2030.
Plans for the massive 460,000-square-foot project, known as SAT14A, were quietly registered on July 16, 2026 - though the project has been in the works since at least January 12, 2026, the date construction apparently began, according to the filing.
The one-story building will sit along Highway 90 in Castroville, about 30 minutes from downtown San Antonio. Though all filing details are subject to change at any time, the development's construction end date is listed as June 1, 2027.
Residents continue to voice their concerns about the technology facilities in Medina County amid the influx of data centers cropping up across the Hill Country, joining online pages like the Medina Co. vs. Data Centers Facebook group, which currently operates under the name Medina County Talks Data Centers - Info & Discussion.
A CyrusOne representative was not immediately available for comment.
