Ex-LSU pitcher Deven Sheerin is officially a professional baseball pitcher. The right-handed pitcher signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for $600,000 on Tuesday after they selected him at No. 128 overall in the fourth round of the 2026 MLB Draft. The amount is $2,600 over the estimated slot value of the pick.
Sherrin spent two seasons in Baton Rouge, the first on the sideline in 2025 recovering from a torn ACL. He took the mound for the first time donning the purple and gold against Milwaukee in the 2026 season-opening series. Two years in the Tigers' pitching room with Nate Yeskie put him among the top pitching prospects in the draft class.
In 2026, Sheerin held the closing role in critical games. He ended the year with 58 strikeouts through 37.2 innings pitched. The righty got his fastball to sit in the mid-90s and top out at 100 MPH, along with a crafty slider.
Sheerin transferred after one season at Mount St. Mary's. He set a single-season program record with 109 strikeouts, won the 2024 MAAC rookie of the year award and earned a freshman All-American nod from PerfectGame.
