IDAHO FALLS — The executive director and founder of Idaho Chooses Life, David Ripley, is visiting Idaho Falls to discuss the abortion ballot initiative that will be on the ballot this November with community members.
The Community Briefing, hosted by the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee, is on Wednesday and will start at 7 p.m. The discussion will be held at the Veterans Memorial Hall, located at 485 Constitution Way, and is free to the public.
Idaho Chooses Life is a social conservative political action committee formed in 1996 that supports pro-life candidates, according to its website. One of its significant impacts on Idaho was the passage of the Idaho Defense of Life Act — often referred to as the trigger law — that led to a near-total ban on abortions.

EastIdahoNews.com spoke with Mike Colson, chairman of the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee, about the community briefing with David Ripley.
“This is just an opportunity for people to start to get up to speed on the initiative and ask questions and get some information,” Colson said.
His goal as November approaches is to provide opportunities for community members to access information about the ballot measure. He understands that this issue will attract considerable interest, and he hopes community members can engage in thoughtful, civil debates on this topic.
“We live in a very stressful time right now, and we need more than ever voices of reason (and) calmness,” Colson said. “One of the things that I really respect about David is his ability to do that and kind of reach and not create the noise and reach above and beyond the noise to provide good information to people.”
Aside from Ripley’s discussion on Wednesday, Colson said that there will be other opportunities for community members to learn more about the ballot measure.
Colson said that attorney Greg Chaney will speak at the next BCRCC meeting on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. to give a lawyer’s perspective on the ballot and how the courts may or may not apply it.
