A lip reader has revealed what the FIFA president said to president Trump as he refused to leave Spain’s World Cup celebration.
Spain won the World Cup on Sunday night, but it was Donald Trump who ended up stealing the headlines, after footage of him refusing to step aside during the trophy presentation went viral around the world.
Trump’s role at the final was to hand out medals and present the trophy to the winning team alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Spain beat Argentina 1-0, their second World Cup win. But as the Spanish players gathered for their celebratory photo, Trump stayed front and center while Infantino stepped back.
What Infantino said to Trump according to lip reader
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Mirror she could read what Infantino said as he repeatedly tried to usher Trump away from the group.
“Don, come stand this side with me,” Infantino allegedly said.
“Don, this way. Come on. We gotta go.”
When Trump didn’t move, Infantino tried once more:
“This is for them. We’ve given them the trophy, let’s go.”
Trump eventually stepped aside, allowing Spain to have their moment, but not before the glitter cannons had already gone off for the celebration shot seen around the world.
Trump cropped out from photo
FIFA’s response was swift and silent. The official trophy presentation photograph released after the match had Trump cropped out entirely, a move that appeared to have been predicted live by an Australian broadcaster during the broadcast.
Body language expert Mark Bowden told UNILAD he believed Trump’s lingering was deliberate.
“Trump manages to get a chance to remain in the final, iconic photograph,” Bowden said, noting that Trump stayed on the edge of the group precisely as the glitter cannons fired for what would become the defining image of the night.
The Spanish players themselves appeared unbothered. Several were seen laughing at Trump as he performed what fans have dubbed his “arm dance” in front of the team. One player even appeared to join in.
Online reaction was swift.
“Donald Trump photobombing Spain’s World Cup celebration is the single most predictable moment of 2026,” one fan wrote on X.
Many pointed out Trump was also widely reported to have photobombed Chelsea’s celebrations during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.
