Lil Wayne defends White House ballroom as he says 'he's just being Trump'

Lil Wayne made an appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast on Tuesday, July 21, where he praised Donald Trump's extravagant ballroom plans after receiving a presidental pardon

Rapper Lil Wayne expressed support for President Donald Trump and his White House ballroom project during a recent appearance on Benny Blanco's Friends Keep Secrets podcast.

The 43-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., argued that the controversial construction project would benefit performers at the People's House who often perform outside during major events. Fans quickly called Lil Wayne out, pointing to the fact that he was one of 74 people Trump pardoned on the final day of his first term as president.

This comes after Lil Wayne expressed his upset over being left out of Coachella — 'uninvited and unloved.'

During the podcast appearance on Tuesday, July 21, Lil Wayne came to Trump's defense, explaining, "When they was mad at him about building the ballroom, and he was like, 'Because everything we do, we have to do it on the damn lawn."

He continued, "People who don't know nothing [are] hearing that thinking he's just being Trump — no, for real, I was glad to hear him saying that."

Lil Wayne praised Trump's extravagant construction project, pointing to his performance at Kamala Harris's celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop back in 2023, which he said felt more like a "backyard barbecue" than an official White House event, adding that he is "glad" Trump is fighting for the ballroom.

Fans swiftly condemned Lil Wayne's commentary about Trump's ballroom on X, with one fuming, "you have lost the plot bro. It’s not about giving a safe place for performers, it’s the fact this corrupt pos has both used this 'ballroom' to launder money and to satisfy his own narcissistic ego of having lavish private place for him and his goons."

Criticisms surrounding the ballroom stem from the demolition of the East Wing to make way for the 90,000-square-foot event space, which has ballooned from an initial cost estimate of $200 million to a whopping $600 million.

Despite Trump's claims that the space will be fully funded by private donations, American taxpayers are now having to foot the bill for the extravagant project. The Washington Post reported federal funds from the Secret Service were reallocated to the construction of the ballroom.

After Fox News reported on Lil Wayne's recent praise for Trump, one X user pointed out, "Funny how Fox News and Trump supporters always tell celebrities and athletes to shut up about politics, until it's Lil Wayne praising Trump. If Lil Wayne criticized Trump they'd tell him he shouldn't talk about politics."

Another wrote, "wayne defending trump over a ballroom is the most washed plot twist yet."

Others pointed out that Lil Wayne received a full pardon from Trump during the final hours of his presidency. The New Orleans-born rapper pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge for illegally possessing a loaded firearm and ammunition during a flight to Miami on a private jet in December 2019, for which he faced up to a decade in federal prison.

Other fans piled on with comments like, "He got a pardon! Favors exchanged," and "I’d say that too if I got the Pardon you paid for. A Milli A Milli A Milli A Milli…." as another argued, "He has to Donald Trump gave his a-- a f-----g pardon. Are you serious? Are we that f-----g delusional?"

Trump’s bizarre secret nuclear giveaway with Saudi Arabia is leaked

Self-styled “Dealmaker-in-Chief” Donald Trump plans to enter a pact with Saudi Arabia that could allow the repressive kingdom to develop nuclear weapons. Trump, 80, intends to announce and sign the deal to boost the country’s nascent nuclear program—with no concessions to the U.S.—on Wednesday. Such an agreement has been under discussion for years, but the idea had always been to force Saudi Arabia’s hand in return.
