Things are sounding bad over at Splitgate developer 1047 Games once again. After launching Empulse last month, a wall-running, quite Titanfall-esque FPS with mechs game that James had some fun with, it appears that layoffs have taken place at the studio, marking the third round of them in the space of about a year.
This comes courtesy of Game Developer, who spotted several developers that have shared looking for work posts on LinkedIn. "As of the end of this week, it will be my last day at 1047 Games due to the third wave of studio layoffs," wrote an associate art director earlier this week. "Throughout the years in this industry, my main goal has always been to work with inspiring artists and art directors, which was a significant reason why I joined. Unfortunately, that didn’t last as long as I hoped, but I’m grateful for the experience and the wonderful people I had the chance to work with."
The studio's community specialist also shared word of being laid off last week, as well as its QA director, who said, "Another new experience for me - drafting a 'part of a layoff' post on LinkedIn. I have seen so many in the last few years, yet I have been lucky enough to not have to post one myself until now. Basing it on my goodbye message to the remainder of the 1047 Games, here it goes. A bunch of us, "the crew" aboard the 1047 train, are getting off on this post-Empulse station. It has been an interesting ride, bumpy at times, narrowly avoiding derailment and with everyone working hard to keep that 1047 train going."
It is unclear how many staffers have been laid off during this latest round. The first time was also an unspecified number, and the second time saw 45 workers losing their jobs. It's also not clear as to why these layoffs have taken place. Empulse generally seems to have been received well, but whether there are enough people playing, especially given it's an early access release, is another question.
