LeBron James indicated at the start of free agency that he was open to hearing from every team. That may have been true, but reports indicate four teams remain at the heart of the sweepstakes for the future Hall of Famer.
The Cavaliers, Heat, Warriors and 76ers are all still options for James, who has been on the market for more than three weeks but hasn't laid out a clear timeline for a decision.
Count NBA commissioner Adam Silver among those waiting on it. Speaking to a crowd in New York, Silver said, "I would like [James] to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule."
According to agent Rich Paul, James has all of the information he needs to make a decision but won't be rushed into one.

LeBron James next team odds
As of early Tuesday, the Heat were the betting favorite to land James, per DraftKings Sportsbook:
- Miami Heat (-115)
- Cleveland Cavaliers (+200)
- Philadelphia 76ers (+500)
- Golden State Warriors (+500)
Prediction markets are also leaning toward the Heat, but not conclusively. Kalshi has Miami with a 49 percent chance of signing James, followed by 28 percent for the Cavaliers with both the Warriors and 76ers floating near 10 percent. Polymarket offers similar odds, with the Heat near 50 percent.
Odds, however, were nearly even between the Heat and Cavaliers before the Heat mistakenly posted a YouTube link to a scheduled live stream titled "LeBron James Introductory Press Conference" on Tuesday night.
Miami insists it was simply preparing for the possibility James signs with the team, but some fans have taken it as a sign that he will ultimately return to the Heat.

Where is LeBron James going?
Heat
Entering the offseason, the Heat weren't viewed as James' likely choice, with reporting heavily favoring either a new tandem with Stephen Curry in the Bay Area or a return home to Cleveland. Miami was home, too, for four years, and the arrival of Giannis Antetokounmpo makes a return that much more enticing for James.
Now, odds indicate the Heat could be the favorite for James, giving him close to a 50 percent chance of signing with Miami both on prediction markets and in traditional betting odds. How much of that is tied to the Heat accidentally posting a YouTube link to an introductory press conference for James is something to consider, but it shows the franchise clearly believes it has a chance to land the 41-year-old.
Cavaliers
After the Warriors opened the offseason seemingly favored to land James, the Cavaliers' odds gradually improved. Cleveland became the favorite for a long stretch as reporting indicated other teams expected another reunion, and the Cavaliers remain firmly in the mix, according to the odds, even as the Heat have surged.

Warriors
When James informed the Lakers he wouldn't return to the team, reporting strongly indicated he was considering joining the Warriors to team up with Curry and Draymond Green. According to the latest odds, those chances have become more distant. A recent ESPN report stated that the three Eastern Conference teams in the mix for James are believed to be the favorites, leaving the Warriors on the outskirts despite the NBA great having a strong relationship with Curry and Green.
76ers
The 76ers might make the most sense from a basketball perspective with the team they've built, but odds indicate they are nearly as much of a longshot as the Warriors. Unlike Golden State, Philadelphia has never been the favorite at any point, peaking in the early days of July after the Jaylen Brown trade but never reaching the heights of the Cavaliers, Heat or Warriors. Still, it doesn't appear Philadelphia has been ruled out.
