The Fox News host did not mince words on an issue for which “the clock is ticking.”

Fox News host Laura Ingraham came surprisingly close to telling President Donald Trump what to do on Monday.

Her urgent plea: End the war against Iran or face doom in the midterms. “The clock is ticking,” she said.

Ingraham’s near-beg came on the heels of a Fox News report on the United States’ 10th straight night of bombing as the ceasefire evaporates. The strikes were intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran earlier attacked American allies Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, home to a U.S. Navy fleet. At least 18 U.S. service members have died in the war.

The Fox News host sternly warned Trump of the “endless distraction” the war could generate.

“With the midterm elections a little more than 100 days away, the clock is ticking for President Trump to get out of this war before voters head to the polls,” Ingraham said. “It’s making a lot of Republicans nervous. It’s already, as we know, unpopular. According to the new Washington Post/Ipsos poll, 69% of Americans disapprove of the handling of this conflict. Republicans cannot let this become an endless distraction, especially if they want to win in November.”

Ingraham summarized a New York Times report to Democratic strategist Doug Schoen. “Trump is boxed in because Republicans have ceded any real authority on this to the executive branch and the supplementals keep coming up for more spending and more spending,” she said. (Translated: Trump has been waging an unpopular war against Iran without congressional approval but still wants billions of dollars more for it.)

“A lot of these Republicans running for office up for a vote in November are concerned about how this may affect the turnout for them, because they are linked to more spending in Iran,” Ingraham continued to her guest. “Your take on this.”

“I think that’s a fair concern,” Schoen replied.
