But rather than focusing on his incredible achievement, some social media users zeroed in on a 20-second clip showing Yamal and his girlfriend Inés García together on the pitch.
In the footage, Yamal appears to adjust his hair using his phone camera while wearing sunglasses and his gold medal. García can be seen smiling and rubbing his back as she speaks to him, but Yamal doesn’t appear to look directly at her before eventually walking away.
The clip quickly went viral on X, with one post receiving millions of views and thousands of likes. Critics accused Yamal of deliberately ignoring his girlfriend, with some calling his behavior a “red flag.” One person wrote, “her smile slowly fading away, poor thing” while another added, “So annoying this kind of situation.”
Others, however, strongly defended the footballer, arguing that he had just won the biggest trophy in football and was likely overwhelmed by the moment.
