The potential owner of the FIFA Men's World Cup Final's game-winning goal ball has yet to come forward.
Spain topped Argentina, 1-0, in the FIFA Men's World Cup Final at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, July 19. Ferran Torres scored the game-winning goal for Spain in extra time. However, immediately after Torres' game-winning goal, Lamine Yamal, crushed the soccer ball into the stands.
Sports collectibles expert Darren Rovell believes that ball, which won the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, could be worth about $1 million. Rovell is crediting Yamal with essentially giving a fan a seven-figure gift with his kick at the World Cup.
"Saw Spain goal ball went into the crowd. Yamal gave someone a $1M gift. No one has come forward yet," he wrote.
Footage of Yamal kicking the ball into the stands has gone viral.
The question, though: Did the fan who caught the ball in the stands at New York New Jersey Stadium get to keep the ball?
Fans are debating what likely happened to the ball
Some believe that the fan could have escaped the stadium with the ball, while others believe that he or she likely had to return it immediately.
"No way they kept the ball," one wrote.
"They have to throw it back," one fan added.
"What a gift," one added.
Ultimately, if the fan was able to keep the ball, it would be quite the collectible. The soccer ball from the game-winning goal at the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup Final in North America, with President Trump and many celebrities in attendance, would likely go for a huge price at auction.
However, it looks like we could have to wait a while to find out if someone actually did get to keep the ball and if they will come forward.
