Kyogo Furuhashi agrees to join new club, and it's not Celtic

Former Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi has been linked with a return to the club this summer, but it will not happen. The 31-year-old spent around four years at Parkhead, making 116 league appearances and scoring an impressive 63 goals.

During that time, Kyogo won four league titles and five cups, and he was a much-loved figure before sealing his move to Rennes. But things didn't work out in France, where he managed just six league appearances before joining Birmingham City.

After just one goal in 26 league games for the Midlands club last season, he has now moved on again, and it is not to Celtic, as rumoured.

Kyogo finds a new club elsewhere

Kyogo has now agreed to join LA Galaxy in the US, where he may well finish his career, already 31 years of age. Celtic are on the lookout for another forward this summer after missing out on Kelechi Iheanacho, but it doesn't look as though the Kyogo return links were ever anything serious.

While Bhoys fans have good memories of the striker, it's clear he hasn't been in anything resembling good form for close to two years, so it's certainly understandable why Celtic didn't make a move, and his age also has to be factored into the equation.

Still, the US will be a good move for Kyogo, who looks as though he is desperate for a fresh start on the back of his Birmingham struggles.

Although Kyogo did manage to score in pre-season recently, leading to some optimism from his manager, Chris Davies.

“We all know the fine margins just went against Kyogo last season in terms of the conversion of chances, then he was injured for a while," said the Blues boss.

“He’s been working hard to try and improve his game, physically and everything else. I thought it was typical Kyogo today, he ran and pressed, but the good thing was he capped it off with his goals.

“One was a poacher’s goal from in the six-yard box and the other was one that he executed technically quite well to get it away from the keeper. I’m pleased for Kyogo, it will definitely make him feel good.”

But any confidence from that performance will now be taken elsewhere, and in truth, it probably suits both parties to move on. Kyogo now links up with an LA Galaxy side that is occupying one of the final play-off qualifying positions in the Western Conference, with MLS about to restart after the World Cup.
