New York Knicks backup guard Miles McBride has always been among the better bench options the league has to offer. Last season served as a breakout year from McBride, as he quickly established himself as an elite sixth man on a bargain deal.
Knicks’ Miles McBride is underrated
McBride averaged over 12 points per game and shot over 40% from three last season. Both marks were career-bests for the fifth-year guard out of West Virginia, and he became one of their top bench scorers immediately under Mike Brown.
Bleacher Report listed McBride as the fifth-most underrated player in the league.
“In four of his five seasons, he’s had better than a plus-two net differential. Over the past two seasons, the ‘Bockers have been 5.4 points better per 100 possessions with him than without. That’s an enormous number considering he is typically backing up one of the best quintets in basketball,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley.
McBride’s impact is sneaky
McBride is a sneaky gem that provides a spark on offense. He is also capable of filling in any void that may be created by an absence of a starter, such as his 25-point, seven three-pointers eruption against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 4 of the second round when OG Anunoby was out.
McBride has been a valuable piece for a while. His pesky defense along with his lights-out shooting ability make him an important asset to the Knicks’ success, and he was a key contributor in their run at a championship.
He will continue to be very important for them next season as they look to repeat as champions. McBride will be entering a contract year, and he is sure to get an increased pay day from his current annual salary of approximately $4 million.
Soon enough, the league will see the type of impact he provides to a winning team.
