Kevin Gausman acknowledged that Tuesday's outing at Rogers Centre could have been his final home start with the Toronto Blue Jays, but the veteran right-hander said he is trying not to dwell on the possibility.
With the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaching, Gausman addressed his future after Toronto's 12-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The 35-year-old is in the final season of his five-year, $110 million contract and is eligible for free agency after the season.
Rather than speculate about a potential trade, Gausman said his focus remains on the players in Toronto's clubhouse and finishing the season as strongly as possible. His contract also includes a limited no-trade clause that allows him to block deals to eight clubs.

Tuesday's start capped another difficult outing for Gausman, who surrendered four earned runs over 3 1/3 innings. Through 21 starts, he owns a 4-9 record with a 4.51 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 117 strikeouts and 115 2/3 innings pitched.
Despite the uneven results, Gausman has remained a durable fixture in Toronto's rotation throughout 2026. His experience and postseason résumé could make him one of the more intriguing starting pitchers available if the Blue Jays decide to move veteran talent before the deadline.
Toronto dropped to 46-55 with Tuesday's defeat and sits last in the American League East, 12.5 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays. The Blue Jays have struggled to generate offense this season, entering Wednesday ranked last in Major League Baseball in runs scored.
Whether Gausman finishes the year in Toronto or elsewhere, the veteran made it clear that his attention remains on helping the Blue Jays win while leaving any trade decisions to the front office.
