In many ways, this shoe is similar to the Keen Hightrail Vent Hiking Sneaker. The lug pattern on the outsole, which aids in uphill and downhill movement across mixed terrain, for example, is identical. Similarly, there’s a toe guard and thick all-terrain midsole.
Perhaps it’s easier to see where this shoe differs. For one, it has a slightly lower price. And though part of that could be supposed to be its lower emphasis on ventilation than the Hightrail, I don’t think that’s the actual case. This shoe, the Versacore, is a purely textile mesh on the upper, eschewing leather, and that’s going to give it an overall lighter feel while simultaneously reducing material cost.
So, which one should you get? If you like explicit ventilation and a touch of leather for style, you should still consider opting “up” for the Hightrail Vent, which is just a few dollars more. For what it’s worth, though, I’d go with the Versacore every single time, because every dollar counts, the build stability and breathability are going to be impeccable, and I personally prefer avoiding leather as much as possible.
