Katie Thurston’s husband Jeff Arcuri is sharing an update on their journey to welcoming a baby.
The comedian, 38, appeared on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast Off the Vine on Tuesday, July 21, and revealed that he and Thurston, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2025, have taken the next step in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. “We have embryos,” he shared. “Two embryos.”
He then explained why he and Thurston are waiting before continuing the process.
“We got a house that’s being renovated. It’s hit a lot of hiccups,” said Arcuri. “So our house was supposed to be renovated in maybe four months — that was our initial projection. Now it’s 18 months.”

Arcuri also noted that he and Thurston didn’t want to welcome their little one while undergoing a major home renovation.
“So we’re like, ‘Ok, we’re going to do this for a while,’ ” said Arcuri. “I don’t know. I kind of want to have a home for my baby before a baby for my home.”
“I’d rather start with the rooms that we want, the way we want to start our family,” he continued. “I know I’ve talked to people that have gone through IVF, women in comedy that have gone through it and had children since, and they’re like, ‘Just do it.’ You’re never going to be like, ‘Now [is the time].’”
During a previous appearance on the Off the Vine podcast, Thurston revealed her complex emotions about not being able to carry a child after her breast cancer diagnosis. At the time, she shared that her husband Arcuri had been helping her stay positive.
“We’ve had a lot of conversations about it, and there’s all these moments that I feel like we won’t get to have,” she said. “But, then he’s very sweet and reminds me we still can do that. We can still do a baby shower. We can still experience finding out the news.”
“He’s very sweet about that,” she added. “As great as it would have been to carry my own child, there’s also a lot that I can focus on my own personal health and healing my cancer versus [the] health of a child inside of me.”
In April, Thurston underwent a double mastectomy. Then, earlier this month, she shared that she has to get a liver biopsy as doctors are “at a loss” as to why her enzymes are elevated amid her ongoing journey with cancer.
Thurston and Arcuri tied the knot in an intimate backyard ceremony at their home on March 22, 2025. The couple told Us Weekly that they decided to move up their wedding date because Thurston was beginning treatment for her stage 3 breast cancer, which has since developed to stage 4.
The former Bachelorette announced her diagnosis just months after getting engaged. She and Arcuri told Us Weekly the diagnosis has only reinforced and strengthened their dedication and love for each other.
