Jonathan Bailey is stepping into a chilling new role.
The Wicked star, 38, will narrate a new audio production of Bram Stoker’s Dracula as the titular character.
The upcoming Audible Original, out this fall, puts a new spin on the 1897 gothic horror novel, reimagining the text as a psychological thriller, per a statement shared with PEOPLE. The production tells of the disappearance of Jonathan Harker when he visits Transylvania. As Harker’s fiancée, Mina, turns to letters and other documents to piece together what happened, she realizes that she’s being hunted by the same predator.
The immersive English-language production additionally stars Louis Partridge as Jonathan, Ella Purnell as Mina, Aimee Lou Wood as Lucy, David Jonsson as Dr. Seward, Lesley Manville as Mrs. Westenra and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Professor Van Helsing.
“This is what Audible does best, crafting immersive audio experiences that transport listeners into the heart of the story,” says Aurelie de Troyer, Head of Audible Content, International, in the statement. “When Dracula whispers in your ear, when you hear his footsteps in the dark but see no reflection, that’s when you understand why we’re the home for this story. Our production elevates the psychological thriller at Dracula’s core, with the battle between Mina and Dracula as the heart of it all.”
The international casts of the adaptation will feature Omar Sy and Deva Cassel (French); Matthias Schweighöfer and Jeanne Goursaud (German); Riccardo Scamarcio and Benedetta Porcaroli (Italian); Asier Etxeandía and Claudia Salas (Castilian Spanish) and Esmeralda Pimentel (Latin American Spanish).

“With director Mary Lambert at the helm and a haunting score by Ilan Eshkeri, we’re bringing this ambitious production to life just in time for Halloween,” Troyer continued.

Bailey isn’t the only Wicked actor to create his own take of Stoker’s novel. This year, Cynthia Erivo starred in a one-woman stage adaptation of Dracula on London’s West End. The Oscar nominee played all 23 roles in the production, which ended its run at the Noël Coward Theatre on May 31.
Dracula is a new addition to Audible Original’s roster of classics, also including George Orwell’s 1984 and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
The new Dracula audio production will be released on Oct. 1 and is now available for preorder on Audible.
