A disastrous few months for the LIV Golf League have left its members wondering if they'll have a job in 2027. Based on Jon Rahm's recent comments on the matter, he might want to start looking into backup options.
Rahm, who signed on with LIV ahead of the 2024 season for a reported $300 million plus, faced questions about the league's future at LIV Golf U.K. on Tuesday. Although the Spaniard didn't offer any concrete answers about LIV Golf's health moving forward, his responses indicated a lack of confidence in the breakaway league returning in 2027.
"I'm not going to share anything that I can't share with you guys right now," Rahm said from the JCB course in Uttoxeter, England, per Golf Digest.
LIV Golf hasn't made any official announcements about its plans, but Rahm revealed that league officials are keeping players in the loop.
"Yes," he said. "Well, we're in contact with them. We know a lot of what's going on, yeah. Not that I can share with you guys right now."
Jon Rahm's ambiguity echoes LIV Golf's current state
No one can blame Rahm for feeling uneasy about his career post-2026. In April, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced it will pull its funding in 2027. LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has been attempting to drum up $350 million in external capital to keep the league afloat for another season, but those efforts have been unsuccessful so far.
Additionally, LIV Golf is being sued for more than $1 million by Mobii Systems Group Ltd. for unpaid invoices and lost revenue. The rival league also lost its feeder tour on Tuesday when the Asian Tour decided to realign with the DP World Tour and PGA Tour.
The walls are caving in for LIV Golf, but Rahm has no other choice but to remain hopeful.
"I'm always optimistic; I play a game for a living," the two-time major champion said. "I can't really be too upset about how things are going in life. Even though I'm very frustrated on the course very often, off the course I'm very different to what a lot of people think."
