New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo was recently at the center of some unwanted attention. During an appearance at Fanatics Fest, the former Arizona State Sun Devil was filmed attempting a backflip, but failing and landing awkwardly.
While he immediately got up like nothing was wrong, Skattebo's injury history made it a concerning event. He was limited to just eight games as a rookie after suffering an ankle injury on Oct. 26, which required season-ending surgery.
Skattebo's stunt was immediately met with criticism from fans and analysts, who questioned the decision. On ESPN's "First Take," Chris Russo said, "This is beyond stupid."
However, not everyone viewed the incident as a major concern, including head coach John Harbaugh. During an appearance on "Bleav in Giants," Harbaugh shared his reaction to the video, showing little concern, but emphasizing that Skattebo is ready for the upcoming season.
“My reaction was, I haven’t talked to him yet, I’m gonna talk to him, I’m sure, but my reaction was this ‘Dude, at least stick it,’” Harbaugh said. “You know what I mean? Land the thing if you're going to do it, you know. That was my first reaction. But you know Skatt’s going to be ready to go, and he’s been working super hard. He's really been training like crazy, and his mind is on camp.”
It won't be long until Skattebo is back practicing with his team. Giants rookies are set to report to training camp on Thursday, while the rest of the roster has until July 28 to show up. The running back is expected to be ready by Week 1.
He is looking to build off an impressive rookie season despite the injury. Skattebo rushed the ball 101 times for 410 yards and five touchdowns. He also hauled in 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
