Wednesday Isn't A Faithful Adaptation Of The Addams Family, But It Works
Wednesday isn’t for those looking for a proper adaptation of the Addams Family, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth watching. Wednesday follows the title character as she’s sent to Nevermore Academy, a school for monsters and outcasts, after being expelled from her school. Wednesday has a hard time connecting with her classmates, but her experience at Nevermore takes a turn when she finds out she inherited Morticia’s psychic abilities and there’s a murder in the area.
Season 2 of Wednesday arrived in two parts in 2025, and it reunited viewers with the Addams’ daughter as she faced a new enemy while also doing her best to prevent her roommate’s death. Wednesday has succeeded thanks to its approach to the iconic Addams Family, with that gothic charm that has characterized the family mixed with teen drama, mystery, and fantasy elements that aren’t usually associated with these characters. Wednesday, then, isn’t a faithful adaptation of the Addams Family, but it works quite well.
Wednesday adds many supernatural elements to the character, most notably Wednesday’s powers, which don’t come from the comics nor any of their previous adaptations. Wednesday has other aspirations and hobbies that aren’t centered on torturing her brother, Pugsley, and speaking of her family, Wednesday is more independent in her Netflix show, with her parents being pushed aside. Although The Addams Family is a classic, perhaps a fresh take like Wednesday is exactly what the franchise needed.
What Will Wednesday Season 3 Be About?
In July 2025, Wednesday was renewed for a third season, which started filming in February 2026. Season 3 of Wednesday has some exciting additions to its cast, such as Eva Green (who is playing Morticia’s sister, Ophelia), Chris Sarandon, and Winona Ryder, whose character details are still unknown, but she will play a woman named Tabitha. Wednesday season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet, and plot details haven’t been revealed yet, but season 2 gives an idea of where it will go.
Wednesday season 3 is expected to see the Addams’ daughter doing her best to save Enid, who in season 2 became trapped in her alpha werewolf form, which also means that the werewolves are coming for her.
